Reddit user Sloth flagged the problem. Every server they checked showed renewals disabled. Without a fix those servers would shut down in weeks. Sloth wondered if EA is phasing out Battlefield 4 quietly or pushing people toward Battlefield 2042 or the upcoming Battlefield 6. The lack of any official notice or forum update left owners feeling abandoned.
On July 11, 2025, EA’s global community manager stepped in. They confirmed the issue was a technical error blocking PlayStation subscriptions. Repairs were made and renewals are back online. Server owners can breathe easy knowing their custom matches will stay alive.
It seems unlikely EA is forcing players off Battlefield 4. The game still outperforms recent flops like Anthem, whose servers will close within a year. Fans of the Stop Killing Games movement worry about titles becoming unplayable once servers vanish. Battlefield 4 could still run in solo modes, but losing private servers would hurt communities built around mods and custom rules.
For now the glitch is history and servers are safe. Players will watch EA closely for any future hiccups. After keeping fans engaged for twelve years, Battlefield 4 has earned the right to a transparent support roadmap. No one wants this game to be the next The Crew.
