Legend of Zelda Live-Action Movie Casting Confirmed

Nintendo named its leads for the live action Legend of Zelda film. Bo Bragason will play Princess Zelda. Benjamin Evan Ainsworth will wield the Master Sword as Link. Series creator Shigeru Miyamoto shared the news on social media and said he is very much looking forward to seeing both on the big screen. The film opens May 7 2027 after a brief delay meant to give the team more polish time.

Bragason and Ainsworth Are Zelda and Link

Nintendo confirmed the long awaited casting today. Bragason takes on Zelda. Ainsworth steps into Link’s boots. Miyamoto delivered the announcement himself and praised the young actors. The message ended with thanks to fans for their patience as the movie heads toward theaters in 2027.

Miyamoto told fans the team shifted the release to May 7 2027 for production reasons and to make the film as good as it can be. The move adds only a few weeks to the schedule yet places Zelda at the start of the summer blockbuster corridor.

Who Are The New Leads?

Bo Bragason brings a fast rising résumé to Hyrule. Born in 2004 in England, she broke through with substantive TV turns in Disney+ fantasy adventure Renegade Nell and BBC crime drama The Jetty. She plays Clara Radley in the dark suburban vampire film The Radleys

Earlier screen work includes the horror feature Censor and a credited Young Luna performance connection to the Final Fantasy XV universe. Industry watchers see her mix of period drama, genre horror, and YA fantasy as good prep for channeling Zelda’s royal resolve and emotional range.

Benjamin Evan Ainsworth was born 25 September 2008 and already stacks notable genre credits. He chilled viewers as Miles Wingrave in Netflix’s The Haunting of Bly Manor and later voiced the title puppet in Disney’s 2022 live action Pinocchio.

He stars as young Mark Critch in the Canadian coming of age sitcom Son of a Critch and has appeared in family adventure Flora & Ulysses and other projects that push young actors to carry heart and humor. His experience moving between horror, heartfelt comedy, and voice driven performance positions him well to embody Link’s character, even if the video game counterpart barely speaks.

Still Waiting on More Information

Fans are still waiting on Nintendo or Miyamoto to give at least some information about the movie’s plot. There are speculations this could be a retelling of Orcarina of Time or Wind Waker given Ainsworth’s age. If it is Orcarina, there would also be an older actor for future Link. There is also a question on who is going to play as Ganon, the franchise’ main antagonist.
