A 12-year-old student at Granbury Middle School in Texas suffered serious burns when a science experiment went wrong. His teacher reportedly covered his hands in hand sanitizer and lit them on fire to demonstrate how quickly the flames would burn off.
The fire did not go out as expected and the boy’s hands were badly burned, requiring hospital treatment and leaving him with possible third-degree burns.
The teacher had performed the same demonstration with other students earlier that day, then resigned after the incident, while the school district turned the case over to law enforcement and the matter is under review by the local district attorney for possible charges.
